Introduction
About
Art Music Denmark’s purpose – in partnership with other organisation is to elevate and further develop the Danish music sector, and promote Danish music abroad. Art Music Denmark also promotes knowledge-sharing between relevant parties.
Art Music Denmark focuses on contemporary music, classical and sound art, but acknowledges that traditional genre labels do not reflect the reality of how music evolves today. Therefore, Art Music Denmark’s focus areas should be understood as a spectrum of independent and interconnected music environments and genres, each with their own unique characteristics.
Art Music Denmark’s vision is to be an effective development and knowledge organization that both supports individual players and elevates the genre field as a whole. With solid, data-driven knowledge of the field, we act as sparring partners, facilitators and catalysts for sustainable music environments. We intervene where we can create lasting value.
Art Music Denmark receives operating support from the Danish Arts Foundation’s Project Support for Music.

For readers outside Denmark: How is musical life organised and structured?
When it comes to the art music scene in Denmark; Classical, contemporary and sound art, Denmark has a variety of strong institutions: National and regional orchestras, ensembles and venues. A grid of organisations like Art Music Denmark as well as strong unions like the Danish Musicians Union and the Danish Composers Society play a vital supportive and developing role.
When it comes to national publishing and recordings, Edition-S is the public publisher of score music and Dacapo is the national record label for Danish music.
As for the free musical environment of classical and arts music, more that 70 festivals exists besides approx. 100 smaller concert organizers across the country.
Our funding comes from various sources: from state, municipality, organisations and private foundations. The Danish Arts Foundation and Koda Kultur is the most noticeable funders, but also private foundations like the Augustinus Foundation plays a vital role.
Where does Art Music Denmark fit into this structure?
Why is Art Music Denmark relevant for national and international target groups?
We are primarily supported by the Danish Arts Foundation as an independent specialist organisation with the aim of supporting creative professionals within our field. We work closely with other organisations in Denmark and abroad to elevate and further develop the Danish music sector and promote Danish music abroad.
We do that by offering free council, develop and promote a variety of projects, networks, career development, offer transportation support as well as developing, sharing and communicating knowledge.
