Welcome to belgrade

Nineteen representatives from 14 countries, including participants from New Zealand and across Europe, gathered in Belgrade from 23 to 26 September 2025 for the annual IAMIC Conference and General Assembly. At its core, the gathering served as a platform for dialogue, mutual learning, and rethinking the role of music information centers in the context of ongoing changes in the global cultural landscape.

The first day of the conference took place at the Center for Creative Industries and Innovation “Ložionica”, a newly revitalized cultural venue reflecting Belgrade’s dynamic and evolving creative scene. As a multidisciplinary space, Ložionica provided an inspiring setting for discussions on the role of cultural infrastructure in supporting artistic production and international exchange. The program addressed a range of topics relevant to today’s music sector, including the role of music in times of social and political change, as well as the importance of strengthening international networks. A central panel discussion, “Culture, Populism, and the Power of Music”, opened up critical dialogue on how music can respond to and shape contemporary societal challenges.

Informed by insights gathered from earlier meetings, the program was structured to allow more space for direct interaction among participants. Several members presented their ongoing projects, offering insight into diverse practices and approaches within their respective organizations. Interactive formats encouraged discussion and reflection, creating opportunities for participants to share experiences and develop ideas for future collaboration. These exchanges also contributed to ongoing IAMIC initiatives, including the development of shared values and the strengthening of internal working groups.

The conference was organized by the Music Information Centre of Serbia in cooperation with partners such as the World Music Association of Serbia and Serbia Creates, with support from The Organization of Phonogram Producers of Serbia (OFPS).

In addition to the conference sessions, participants had the opportunity to experience a rich accompanying program highlighting the local music scene. This included a welcome reception and performance by the Living Heritage Trio, concerts within the “Todo Mundo” festival, a visit to the Electronic Studio of Radio Belgrade, and a concert at Studio 6 of Radio Belgrade. A guided tour of the city, including Kalemegdan, as well as informal networking events such as the closing “IAMIC Bar”, provided further opportunities for exchange in a more relaxed setting.

The programme of IAMIC’s 2025 Conference in Belgrade covered a range of topics relevant to today’s music sector.
