25 Recordings Newly Inducted into U.S. Library of Congress National Recording Registry

The U.S. Library of Congress has announced the 2009 Inductees in the National Recording Registry, a collection now comprising 300 music, spoken word, and audio documentary recordings. In order to qualify for inclusion, a recording must by at least ten years old and be deemed culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant and worthy of preservation.

Esa-Pekka Salonen and Peter Martins receive AMC Letters of Distinction

On June 22, 2010, the American Music Center presented composer/conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and choreographer Peter Martins with Letters of Distinction on the stage of the David H. Koch Theater immediately prior to the New York City Ballet's premiere of the new Martins ballet Mirage featuring the score of Salonen's Violin Concerto.

2010 BMI Student Composer Awards Announced

The recipients of the 58th annual BMI Student Composer Awards were presented with plaques and cash prizes totaling $20,000 at a reception held at the Jumeirah Essex House in New York City on May 14, 2010. The eleven composers, ten born in the United States and ranging in age from 13 to 26, were all present to receive their honors.

86th Annual Guggenheim Fellowships Announced

In its 86th annual competition for the United States and Canada, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation has awarded 180 Fellowships to artists, scientists, and scholars. The successful candidates were chosen from a group of some 3,000 applicants.
